CXC STUDY GUIDE 2.0: Your GamePlan

The 2026 CXC season has started. Do you have your game plan? If you haven't seen the first CXC Study Guide, you can check it out right here:https://toniashlaay.wixsite.com/toni-ashlaay/post/cxc-study-guide-tips-tricks-to-succeed. In the CXC Study Guide 2.0 we will be addressing the housekeeping matters relating to your CXC exams as well as giving you the best strategy to approach your exams.

  1. Start studying early

In the first study guide, we spoke about textbooks and the syllabus but now let's tackle strategy. The syllabus means nothing if you weren't following it from way before and the textbook also means nothing if you weren't reading it in advance of the exam. Start studying early. Active reading during the school year is my recommendation. We might not have the time all the time to sit and go through word for word or sentence by sentence but we can read. Read with intentionality and not just calling words in order to open your mind up to the idea of the concepts that you are reading about.

  1. Be informed about changes made by CXC

It is key and very vital that you stay up to date with the current affairs of the CXC body. Your school and your teachers would be your first point of contact if something regarding the exam or the syllabus changes. You can also watch the news, read the newspaper and check the press releases on the official CXC website.

  1. Mock exam

Many schools usually have a mock exam before the "official" CXC exams start. If your school offers it, I would advise you to utilize it. Doing a mock exam tells you where you are academically and where you need improvement. You can even do a mock exam at home where you time yourself and try to complete the paper in the required timeframe.

  2. Know your progress and ask for help early

It is important to know where you stand in preparation for your exam. If at the start of the term, you notice that you are struggling, notify your teacher, ask your classmates for help or turn to Youtube or textbooks to see if that will help. Do not wait until the last minute when it is too late.
